Wellbeing Science Institute is delighted to announce a new partnership with Loughborough Sport to run the World-Class Elite Athlete Wellbeing Management Course in the UK for the next 3 years.

The Elite Athlete Wellbeing Management Course which began in Australia in 2017 is the first program of its kind in the world. It comprehensively equips participants with the knowledge and skills to move beyond traditional player care approaches into the holistic, developmental aspects of whole-person wellbeing. Grounded in the latest neuroscience, the course addresses topics such as sleep, recovery from injury, psychological wellbeing, positive mental health, positive relationships, culture and spirituality, as well as dual-career strategies, transitions and financial wellbeing.

Delivered both on campus and online, the UK course is designed as a deep immersive learning experience. The mix of on campus delivery at Loughborough and virtual learning allows for even greater flexibility, interaction, and networking. A unique feature of the program design is how different cohorts can interact and network. The course was delivered in 2019 and 2020 in the UK and has already attracted high profile professionals from elite sports organisations including Liverpool FC, Manchester City FC, Arsenal FC, West Ham United FC, Harlequins Rugby, The Gaelic Players Association, and The League Managers Association.

Steve Johnson, Chief Executive Officer at the Wellbeing Science Institute said:

“Loughborough was a natural fit for the Wellbeing Science Institute to run the programme because of its outstanding reputation in research and teaching as well as its world-leading reputation for sport.”

“The course is the only nationally accredited qualification for elite athlete wellbeing in Australia and has been endorsed by a number of professional sporting organisations including the National Rugby League, The Australian Cricketers Association, the Queensland Academy of Sport and the Rugby League Players Association.”

“The course will provide a world-class professional development option for practitioners looking to provide leadership and excellence in their work with elite athletes across the UK and Europe.”

Jo Simpson, Commercial and Facilities Director, Loughborough Sport added:

“Loughborough Sport is all about innovation and the holistic support we offer our outstanding athletes is at the heart of everything we do.

“By working with WSI to bring this course to Europe, we will develop that further and deepen our connections with top sporting organisations as we develop the next generation of leaders in elite athlete wellbeing.

“This will drive performance and shape the future of how sporting organisations support elite athletes with their wellbeing throughout the sporting world.”

The course at Loughborough will commence in March 2022 with four separate opportunities for enrolment.
